Hair frizziness is a common complaint, especially during summer. It is majorly a result of dryness of the scalp and hair, leading to irregular hair texture. The frizz causes the hair to look dull without glow, causes hair breakages, an itchy scalp, and hair texture tightening.

Some causes of the staleness and lifelessness of your hair can be attributed to pollution, climate conditions, medical conditions, genetics, lack of strength, staying in the sun, chemical treatment and dehydration.

Here are a few tips to salvage the situation.

1) Always keep your hair moisturized.

In an article by London-based celebrity hairstylist Franco Vallelonga, he stressed the importance of reducing the use of chemical products such as relaxers, straighteners, and bonds on the hair as all those dry out water from the hair. He recommended indulging in a weekly hair spa treatment.

"These will help replace the moisture loss in your hair and keep your hair in optimum condition,” says celebrity hairstylist Franco Vallelonga.

Also, to ensure moisture in the hair, it's essential to regularly use your fingertips to massage your scalp gently with oil, preferably coconut oil, starting from the roots to the tips. This will help re-circulation of blood and healthy working of natural skin oil glands.

2) Protect hair from heat

Due to the nature of the hair, excessive or constant exposure to heat damages your hair cuticles and often stops them from resealing. The heat dries out and denatures the hair.

As much as possible, reduce the use of heat-producing equipment such as straightener and hairdryer to reduce dullness and frizziness.

3) Choose anti-frizz products

When shopping for hair products such as leave-in conditioners, and shampoos, make sure to choose a product that doesn't soak up the moisture from your hair completely. Be sure to choose hair products that add moisture and are great for frizzy hair.

Vallelonga explained that even though mousse, gels, texture sprays are great for keeping your hairstyle in place, however they dry out the moisture in the hair causing frizziness.

4) Use anti-static tools

Using a wooden comb has tremendous benefits for your hair compared to a plastic comb. If you've been using a plastic comb, a switch to a wooden comb can lessen frizz in the hair. This is because plastic combs often cause electricity in your hair.

Opt for anti-static combs to comb your hair for the perfect hair look.

5) Avoid over handling of hair

As much as possible, reduce over-handling your hair to avoid frizz. Try not to be rough on your hair, treat with utmost care.

After washing and conditioning your hair, gently towel dry or leave to fully dry on its own. Try not to vigorously squeeze or rub the hair as it will cause frizz and static.

Also, do not brush your hair so frequently, this can lead to dull hair and hair breaking.

These are tips about having a healthy hairstyle. If these tips don't help, you can consult a certified hair expert to recommend products to treat your hair.
