Sunburn is caused by prolonged exposure to Sun Ultraviolet (UV) Ray. Hence spending a long time outdoors causes sunburn. However, lifestyle and habits as shown below can also slow down the healing of sunburn:
Health Conditions such as diabetes
Habits such as smoking
Obesity
malnutrition
Chronic stress
Home Remedies to Treat Sunburn
Get enough sleep. Sleep reduction will slow down the healing process of sunburn.
Drink lots of water
Have a cool bath. Trap in moisture by applying moisturiser
Apply Aloe Vera to prevent inflammation and skin peeling
Take an oatmeal bath. Add some oatmeal (a cup) and baking soda (2 teaspoons) to your cool bath to reduce skin irritation and soothe the skin.
Put away the soap. To pamper your skin, use a mild soap instead for your cool bath. A baby bath shampoo is ideal in this situation.
Compress the skin with ice or ice-cold water. It will reduce the heat.
Wear lightweight fabrics
Use chamomile tea. Brew the tea and let it cool. Use a clean cloth to soak the tea and apply it to the affected area. Do not use if allergic to pollen.
Other things to note:
Avoid outdoors from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm as UV rays are strongest in the late morning and early afternoon.
Wear a hat in the sun
Wear sun glasses
Apply sunscreen lotion
