Are we staying safe?
As this global economic crisis continues, it is expected that businesses might not return to normal for a long time.
However, I personally believe that this unprecedented pandemic will unveil many business opportunities.
One aspect I’m certain this global crisis has affected is our finances, both as employers and employees. Many business owners have had to downsize due to a decrease in sales. For instance, in the entertainment industry, live shows cannot hold due to the restrictions placed on gatherings. Did you just mention events planners? Salons? Eateries? Yeah, right. They amongst others are having a hard time with this pandemic.
Despite this pandemic, do you believe some people are ‘cashing out?’ I knew you won’t believe me.
Are you experiencing job loss or extra free time? Consider one or more of these:
1. YouTube:
YouTube is the most popular video platform out there with 2 billion logged-in monthly users. Do you know people watch one billion hours of videos on YouTube on a daily basis (YouTube, 2019)? Oh, you’re wowed. It is a platform that makes it easy for a content creator to reach a large audience. You can start a YouTube channel today with just your phone, creating a niche for yourself from beauty tutorials, product reviews, comedy, fashion, language, online tutoring classes, homeschooling videos (especially for kids during this pandemic). Even if you already have a business, you can increase the exposure of your products by making a video of that product showcasing its benefits and guide to using it. From there, you can be a YouTube partner and earn money from ads.
2. Thrift Wears:
If you’re like me that has clothes I’ve not worn in six months yet occupying space in your wardrobe, listen to this. You can sell some of your clothes you’ve probably never worn because you don’t like the color, no occasion for it or it doesn’t just fit. It’s not bad if you want to sell clothes you’ve worn a couple of times, as long as they are in good condition. Create an Instagram account, take a picture of the clothes, and post using the right hashtags. You’ll marvel at the rate people show interest.
3. Food Entrepreneur:
Most of us invest so much time in food shopping. You can start by producing in the kitchen all by yourself, and sell to people, especially the essential workers who don’t have the choice of working remotely. You can start by posting pictures of your food on your WhatsApp status, and other social media platforms.
4. Social Media Management:
This set of people don’t seem to be affected by the pandemic so much. Many businesses have moved from walk-in stores to online shopping as we can see that the world is 'forcefully' tending towards technology, and I kind of foresee robots replacing physical efforts. As we can see now, we practically order everything we need from our phones since most stores are closed for the risk of the virus.
So, now to the job of the social media managers… they are responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and monitoring the company’s social media strategy so as to improve marketing efforts, reach clients far and near, and make sales.
I’m encouraging you today, this is a once – in – a lifetime chance to leaping forward.
